The "cookie monster" is changing his tune!
As " Sesame Street " kicks off its 36-th season, its cookie character is changing his "diet" tune! The blue, furry monster's "c is for cookie" song... Has
been replaced with "a cookie is a sometimes food."
It's all part of the show's attempt to push the importance of healthy eating on kids in the face of rising obesity rates.
The show's VP of research and education says quote -- "we are not putting him on a diet. And we would never take the position of no sugar. We're teaching
him moderation."
Where's Snuffy when you need him? Is this really going to curb weight gain?
They're seriously doing that? If they are, I know we have a weight problem here, but why do they have to mess with stuff like cartoons and other things? Everyone knows that cookies are Cookie Monster's favorite food. *smiles* If anything, they should put some separate clips about healthy eating and not have to replace that song. Or Better yet, parents should be the ones to teach their kids about eating the right foods. I don't know. It would just be weird to know they'd change that.

away he's barely there at all..but I can understand the need to push the issue of healthy eating, all the same do you honestly think children are going to listen ...when advertising has a more persuavive influence over children's eating habits
Here Here!
stuff like that makes me sick. I'll eat what ever I want, peopel should eat what they like and want, not what some so-called experts say, or anything and this one about cookie monster, that's just plain sick! he's the cookie monster because he likes cookies, that's how it's been and should be! you want to promote so-called healthy eating, that's fine but don't force it. That's the worst thing you can do.
there's someone who's willing to listen
In an unrelated story they are now starting to make larger toilets. One out now called the "Big Jon", is six inches larger and can hold up to 1200 pounds. If your up to 1200 pounds you don't need a bigger toilet you need a smaller fridge.
1200 thats ohh my maths 85 stone... you cant go to the toilet at that weight,as your legs and spine, are unable to cope with the colossal strain..on Discovery they showed film of a man who had reached that weight, he was relieving himself in bed, as he was effectively paralysed by the fat...
Well remember it is up to 1200 pounds. tehehehehe
ummm im seriously crying....
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard!
Why do they need to mess with this stuff? I have a copy of the "C is for cookie" song on my computer and I'm normal weight or skinny, depending on who you ask.
i seriously cant believe theyre doing that. thats completely rediculous.
Omg that is so pathetic! Changing a song on Sesame Street--which was my favorite by the way--is not gonna push people to eat healthier. If you want to stay fit, then you have to be motivated to eat right and excercise on your own. I mean, don't little kids who are too young to even understand that concept anyways watch that show? I know that, if that had been the case when I watched it, I never would've pulled out (obesity is a growing epidemic and it must be stopped at all costs" from Cookie Monster singing about eliminating cookies from his diet.
guess I'll have to hide all my cookie monster stuff now, wouldn't want to get fat just looking at it hahaha
That's so stupid. Taking cookies away from Cookie Monster is just stripping away at his personality. He's there to show kids that it's ok to have a nice snack when you feel like it. C is for cookie, and that's always good enough for me, for cookie cookie cookie starts with C!
It's easier, quicker and cheaper, than dealing with the real issues and targeting children who are too young to know any better is pure exploitation..
I agree with the last post. Unfortunately that's how things are. There are just unhealthy sweets and snacks everywhere, and at least from what I notice,
nowadays children aren't encouraged to run around as much for exercise either anyway, or sometimes just don't feel like it because they have TV and video
games to keep them busy. But if the TV people want to tell children to eat healthy, they can, but they should use other characters and/or do those public
service things or commercials to encourage that, not change a character whose whole point is that he loves cookies. That's like putting the Count to teach
the alphabet when his main thing is numbers. Anyway, Cookie Monster doesn't just eat cookies, he eats litterally everything. Like on a tape I still have
of Sesame Street, while Bertt and Ernie were playing a guessing game with sounds, Cookie Monster happened to hear the word "cookie", and ran in and ate
the cookies in the jar, and then ate everything else they had been using. Also, in another part, he ate a ukeleli that Ernie had been playing to represent
an L thing. I'm surprised (not that I'd want them to because I never tried eating stuff), that they didn't get all over that thinking that "children might
try to eat things other than food."

MOst children do put things in their mouths to test if they are edible,so I'm suprised also...
